Hybrid Nomads have the global communication power of Iridium technology but are able detect GSM coverage and switch to GSM mode to save communication costs.

Depending on your experimental set up you may want to include water temperature sensor or not in the drifter. You may also want to add the extra power of larger batteries for more operating time.
